Dr Miriam Peckham presenting

On 27-29th July 2024 Melbourne Crowne Plaza welcomed experts from the University of Utah, USA, and specialists from across Australia, to present at this year’s Imaging Conference To Go, NEURORAD 2024.

We were joined by over 250 Consultant Radiologists and Registrars, Radiation Oncologists and Neurology Fellows through to Radiographers, who attended in-person, online and on-demand.

This was our first hybrid medical imaging conference, and this allowed us to meet the needs of our Radiology community across Australia and New Zealand, through to the UK, Canada and America.

DAY 1 – Brain Tumor updates, Dementia, CSF leak and Spine

Day 1 kicked off with one of our lead international speaker’s, Professor of Radiology Karen Salzman, University of Utah, who is Director of the Neuroradiology Fellowship Program & Chief of Neuroradiology.

Professor Salzman opened with presentations on Glial and Glioneuronal Tumours Update, looking at the recent 2024 grading based on histology and more recently molecular features

Dr Andrew McFetridge, from Alfred Health, Monash, then reviewed the latest in Dementia Imaging with a focus on vascular dementia, neurodegenerative disorders, covering MRI and FDG PET findings.

Associate Professor Julian Maingard, Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist at Austin Health, St Vincent's Hospital, Epworth Health then presented on Investigation and Treatment of CSF leak.

Dr. Miriam Peckham, Assistant Professor Of Radiology And The Associate Program Director Of The Neuroradiology Fellowship At The University Of Utah, the introduced her sessions on Actionable findings of the Painful Spine Spinal Tumors.

After lunch Dr Peckham continued with two detailed sessions on Spinal Tumors covering Extradural Tumors e.g Lymphoma and Chordoma and their mimics

After a refreshing break Dr Nicholas Karsz then provided insights into the RANZCR Radiology part 2 exams followed by Reuben Sum, who also provided insights and cases you might see in the Neuroradiology Exam.

Finishing off day 1 was our very own Dr Daniel Saddik, covering Mistakes made in Neuroradiology, presenting a range of cases to finish off the day.

DAY 2 – Stroke, Vascular, CNS, Brain lesions and Headache Imaging

Dr. Miriam Peckham kicked off Sunday morning with a session on Altered Mental Status: A sequence-based approach with a focus on elderly and young patients and acute conditions. Dr Peckham continued the morning session with a Brain Vascular Case-based review.

After the break Dr Daniel Saddik took us through Stroke Imaging - CT Angio and Perfusion - Principles and Practice and then Tips and Pitfalls - The $120M case!

Dr Maingard finished off our Stroke sessions with a seminar on What the radiologist should know - an interventionalists viewpoint.

After lunch we kicked off the afternoon with Professor Salzman and Imaging of Headaches, from Migraines and Cavernous Malformation to Hydrocephalus. Prof Salzman then reviewed Toxic Metabolic Lesions of the Brain.

Dr Karsz then presented on CNS Inflammatory Demyelination Disorders before Professor Salzman finished of the day with an anatomic and pathologic considerations on the Sella and Parasellar regions.

Day 3 – Tumor mimics, Spine cases, CNS Lymphoma, skull base tumors

Day 3 began with Prof Salzman presenting on Tumor mimics of the Head and Neck followed by a sessions on Parenchymal Haemorrhage

Dr Peckham then presented on Patterns of myelopathy, Post Operative Spine and Infection and Inflammatory Spine Cases with Dr Saddik finishing off the sessions with Spinal Cases - the Carnage continues!

After lunch Professor Salzman reviewed a range of cases in relation to Skull Base Tumours as well as CNS Lymphoma and it Mimics.

Feedback from the NEURORAD Conference

It was great to have so much feedback following the event. Here’s just a handful of the highlights experienced by colleagues:

“Both Dr Salzman and Dr Peckham were very professional and informative, giving well put together presentations. I liked the use of cases in almost every lecture to highlight certain imaging features”

(Dr Gordon, Radiology Registrar at Western Health)

“Excellent conference with great array of local and international speakers”

(Neuroradiology Fellow/General Radiology consultant at Queensland X-ray)

“It was great informative and well structured”

(Dr Abdul Al-Ansari, Consultant Radiologist at Vision Radiology)
